POLAND 365 :: WEEKS 43 & 44

October 28 - Our trip to Warsaw for some meetings allowed us a chance to
also spend a little time exploring the city a little bit. Here is the main town
square in Warsaw. Very lovely, but it was a very cold day!
October 29 - More family time today, we chose to do something
more kid friendly (but I think the adults had fun too!). We went
to the science center and literally spent all day there, Olivia even
got her nap in while we went to the space movie after lunch!
We will totally go back sometime when we are in Warsaw if
we can, this place was a huge hit for the whole family.
October 30 - Church and meetings in the afternoon at one of the largest evangelical
churches in Warsaw (and Poland possibly). It was a really neat experience to be
able to worship with this group of people in Warsaw and even more cool to see
and hear about all that God is doing in His church throughout their area!
October 31 - So Halloween is not really a thing here in Poland (and to be honest
we never really "celebrated" it in America) but for whatever reason, our kids
have wanted to carve a pumpkin this year and so we set out to find a good
carving pumpkin. And for a country that doesn't do such things, it was a little
bit of a scavenger hunt to find a big pumpkin like this...but after several stops
we found this perfect pumpkin! The kids painted it rather than carving and
had a lot of fun. The funny thing is, we actually did have a couple Polish
kids come to our house to trick or treat, we did not however have any candy
to hand out...we laughed and said they must know we are the Americans in
the neighborhood, haha!
November 1 - this is All Saints Day here in Poland. This is a typical sight you
will see in a cemetery on this day. It is a national holiday here and families go
together to the cemetery to pay their respects to loved ones by placing flowers
and candles on the graves. It is quite the sight to see!
November 3 - A fun find here in Poland, and not a common thing that
they sell here. I bought a couple cans and plan to use it at our little
Thanksgiving meal for the green bean casserole!
November 4 - This is Jenny's dad's birthday and
as always, we are thankful for our modern technology
that not only allows us to talk with family, but to SEE
them as well. We had a lovely conversation with him
on his birthday and respect and admire the wisdom
his life has produced over the years.
November 5 - Not only did our parents bring lots of goodies for the kids when
they came to visit, they brought goodies for the adults too! Pumpkin in a can,
although not the most healthy, was one of the requested items Jenny had and
so pumpkin pies are in the plans for our upcoming Thanksgiving meal!
November 6 - This is a rare sight to see these
days. A lot of times they are fighting, but we
are also seeing more and more glimpses of
their budding friendship occur and we thank
God for a sweet bond already there and pray
for more depth and joy to abound in their
relationship as they grow up.
November 7 - A little bedtime reading and
diffusing oils to help us get to bed. Little
known fact to some, but we (mostly Jenny)
have not slept too well since moving to
Poland, but find that taking the time to
wind down in the evening does help a
little bit!
November 8 - Jenny traveling home on public
transportation from a ladies evening Bible
study. Cold and rainy/wet days have begun
and make the bus/tram rides a little more
frigid!
November 9 - So we found that you can buy
vanilla extract here (although it took us a
while at first to find where they sell it) but
it also comes in very small bottles and is
very pricy. So we did a little research and
found out that making our own is much
cheaper and taste delicious in recipes!
November 2 and 10 are missing from this post, I found several pictures had been deleted on our computer by accident, oops!
