POLAND 365 :: WEEK 24

June 17 - The kids were happy to hear that there is a Dunkin' Donuts in Berlin
and so of course vacation had to include these colorful donuts! We actually
had Dunkin' Donuts twice in a 24 hour span (as we let the kids have it the
day before when we arrived in Berlin on our little walking tour). They pretty
much concluded that Germany is the best...because it has Dunkin' Donuts, ha!
June 18 - So we spent the majority of our vacation days at a place just south of
Berlin called Tropical Island. I know you may be thinking, this just looks like
a huge airport hanger or something, well you would be (partially) right. This
massive structure was built to house blimps...and we found out is the largest
free standing structure in the world. They had a small scale inside that showed
you could lay down the Eiffel Tower down on it's side inside this and there was
still a little room on both ends. It's huge. We were amazed by it's "big-ness"
overtime we drove up to it! So inside is the "Tropical Island", regulated to
stay the same temperature (a toasting humid 28-30 degrees celsius). I loved
it, and so did the kids. We all miss heat and swimming and it was basically
three straight days of just that. No one ever got bored and we actually felt
relaxed after vacation. There are hotel style rooms inside "the dome" (as
we called it) but also camping spots outside the dome in addition to mobile
type homes fully furnished into hotel rooms, which is where we stayed. It
was a perfect time away as a family with small children! We highly
recommend this place to anyone in or traveling to Berlin.
June 19 - American Father's day celebrated in Germany this
year. And this is the best I could do for a picture of Steve with
his three biggest fans, who relished the extra attention they got
on our time away as a family!
June 20 - Swimming in the Lagoon area inside
the dome...and it also had a beach front (that
reminded us of The Truman Show with the
fake sky in the background and everything),
water slides, kids parks, shopping, restaurants,
and several other pools, sauna, hot tubs, rapid
river and a spa, never to be bored that's for sure!
But the Lagoon is where we ended up spending
much of our time and was best suited for our
three littles.
June 21 - On a nature walk through the
"amazon" inside the dome on our last day.
We headed back to Poland later in the day.
June 22 - Back to school for the kids...for
a couple days anyway! Karis was so happy
to be back and see her friends. Emil (pictured
with her here) is one of her most favorite
school friends and we have enjoyed getting
to know their family this year who have
become special friends to us.
June 23 - Dzien Taty, AKA Polish Father's
Day, was celebrated with Polish chocolate
and Steve's favorite American candy bar.
