Tough and Tender : Isaac at 2 years old

Isaac turned two on February 27th.  Since his birthday falls around when I was expecting baby number three to arrive, we decided we didn’t want a large birthday party.  The thought of having tons of people in our home before a newborn would arrive was not preferable.  So we decided to have a small gathering with just a few friends at a playground.  The rain put a stop to that idea pretty quick and we ended up at Chick-fil-a instead for a couple hours.  Shout out to the Celebration Chick-Fil-A who gave little plush cows, balloons and ice cream to all of us, what what!  Seriously, we were so thankful for the way it turned out and Isaac had a blast playing with some of his favorite buddies.  It was a perfect celebration of our little man and despite the rain, all had a blast. (Plus, I'm glad we decided to have the gathering on the day we did because little did we know that Olivia would arrive the following week!)

Isaac doesn’t eat sweets (except for the free cookies from Publix bakery when we shop for groceries!) and so I didn’t plan on having candles or cake.  But it’s a party so I had to have some type of cake right?!  We brought cupcakes and after I handed them out and told people to enjoy, they were like “no we have to sing to him Jenny!”  Haha, I guess I’m a bad mom, I was just gonna pass on by the singing.  So we sang, and Isaac “blew” out his imaginary candle (ok now I felt like a bad mom, I didn’t even know he knew that’s what you did after singing the happy birthday song)!  Oh well, there’s always next year for candles J

On his actual birthday, we had just arrived home the evening prior with our newest child. So we were excited to be with him the entire day.  We spent that day at home with him and ate his favorite (Chick-fil-a) for dinner.  My mom made monster cookies and  this time around when we sang happy birthday to him, we put two candles on top for him to blow out.  He was pleased.
++++
This little guy lives up to the meaning of his name, he brings laughter to all around him.  He is all boy, very tough and likes to play tackle (all fun and games until he has his sister pinned underneath and she can’t get up!) He’s also really tender hearted and cares for people. He wants to share anything he has and makes sure everyone is taken care of around him.  He likes to play hide and seek and a game he calls “shadow” which consists of walking like a monster and growling “shadow”.  He is funny and keeps us constantly on our toes and says the most adorable things.  His vocabulary seems to be exploding by the day and it’s always a surprise of what’s going to come out next.  He copies his big sister (good and bad). He is beginning to challenge our authority, all while teaching us how to be more gracious in our parenting as we learn to help point his heart to Christ likeness.  He only likes to eat chicken nuggets, fruit, applesauce and fries.  He will hug anyone.  So if you see him running toward you, he may be coming for a hug or to tackle you, either way be ready!  He also insists on giving kisses to anyone who leaves our house.  He can answer about five catechism questions about God. He is potty trained (for the most part, we’ve had many accidents after Olivia’s arrival). He likes to sing “let it go” from the movie Frozen. He hop/skips around when he’s in a good mood. He really enjoys putting puzzles together. He weighed in at 27 pounds (almost as much as his big sister) and is measuring 35 inches in height.

Some fun pics from the party day and his actual birthday

Opening some gifts, singing "Let it Go" into his microphone
LOVE this boy
He absolutely loves when mommy and daddy give kissy sandwhiches
The next two pictures are on his actual birthday, February 27th, just
two days after Olivia arrived (notice our tired faces in the pics!)

He likes opening mail and was thrilled to get many cards in the mail for his birthday
Since he loves cookies, we made monster cookies and put two candles on
top, he was happy to blow them out.  PS. If you have never tried monster
cookies, do yourself a favor and try them sometime!
We are so blessed and thankful for all those who love on Isaac
on a regular basis and celebrated with us as he turned TWO!
