Oh this little man steals our hearts over and over again
each time we look at him! I always
imagined having a son but could never have dreamed how amazing it would
be! He is a delight and adds so much joy
to our family. He truly reflects the meaning of his name, "he will laugh,
brings laughter". Only the Lord
could have known that as we decided on a name for him over two years ago.
18-22 months has probably been my favorite age. I have often told people, I really don't
remember it being this fun when Karis was this age (maybe for the fact that I
was surviving off little sleep with a newborn and trying to figure out how to
parent her at the same time!) There is a
benefit I think in having this third child two years apart rather than 18
months. Isaac has constantly kept us on
our toes with each new thing he is into.
He is our gentle, tender-hearted little man yet ALL boy (a lot like his
daddy). We are grateful for a little boy
who has such a tender heart, especially knowing he will have two sisters to
relate with over the years. He seems to
have a heart for others and when he asks for something and we give it to him,
he then says, "for sissy too" meaning he wants us to give whatever it
is to Karis as well. Anything he's
eating or playing with, he will say "share" when you come near
because he wants to make sure everyone has what they want. It's wonderful to see this and we pray for
his little heart to continue to cultivate a personality of sharing, love and
kindness toward others.
He has begun talking ever so much. In fact around 20 months, his vocabulary just
started to boom and he says so much now.
He imitates noises, phrases and words that sissy makes and his words are
becoming more clear by the day. One of our favorites is when he says "scared" because of the face he makes when he says it. And when he says "bye" it sounds like my old college roommate from east Texas (think southern drawl). I think
he says a new word every day and it is fun to start having more
"conversations" with our son.
He can be a little daredevil, yet still very cautious when trying new things. He loves to wrestle, tackle and chase. Even though sissy is a good opponent most of
the time, he can still be a bit rough for her and we have to step in to referee
when he gets a little too rough.
Isaac's at an age where he is noticing when daddy is gone on work
trips. If Steve leaves for the airport
during his nap or bedtime, when Isaac wakes up he will say, "where daddy
go?" It's been getting more difficult emotionally to handle this part of
Steve's job with two kids now noticing he travels, but we are so thankful for a
job that provides for our family.
When Isaac was 20 months old he spent his first time away
from daddy AND mommy (in the loving care of grandparents), while we traveled abroad for eight days. We got to facetime and chat by phone with the
kids each day but Isaac was not a fan of it. I think he would have done better
not seeing us, then when we did get to see each other on facetime. We decided that we were not going to be away
from them that long again any time soon!
Around 21 months, he began having an interest in the potty,
noticing when he would go in his diaper and running to the bathroom to go sit
on the potty (or even flush the toilet, even though he hadn't gone in the toilet!). Karis did the same thing (except
she started this around 19 months). We
figure we will go with it and if he's potty trained before the new baby
arrives, great...if not, that's ok too.
Sometimes we say that he is going to be an engineer
when he grows up...he is constantly interested in how things work and will
figure out a meticulous plan to make something work. He likes to talk about letters and numbers
when he hears Karis talking about it (just like everything his big sister does,
he tries to imitate) and today he was actually trying to hold up two fingers,
saying "two"...guess he's practicing for when he turns two very soon.
Other fun things about Isaac:
He loves milk, but is a picky eater. He will eat chicken nuggets, bacon, applesauce and fruit most any time it's offered, anything else is hit or miss.
He loves blocks and building things. When he creates something, he loves showing you and saying "tada!"
He loves his sister.
He is going from a mama's boy to a daddy's boy very quickly.
He doesn't like sweets (Steve and I often joke about "who's kid is this?!" since we both love sweets).
He hates car rides.
He likes to play dress up (and we need to find more boy related dress up outfits so he stops wearing tutus!)
He likes to dance.
He has the cutest little run/gallop.
He
doesn't like going to the doctor for check ups...Mostly because he
doesn't like the doctor poking and prodding.
He loves to snuggle.
He can answer the questions, "who made you?" (God) and "what else did God make" (All Things) and "is there any other God than the one true God?" (NO)
He likes to read.
He likes when you sing to him (especially his bedtime song).
He likes to color.
He likes to play with playdoh.
He likes digging in dirt.
He gets sweaty fast (Steve often says he sweats just looking out the window and doesn't have to be doing anything!)
He can identify that the baby is in mommy's belly when you ask "where is baby?" Yet sometimes he will follow it up by lifting his shirt and pointing to his own belly!
He was 24 pounds at his 18 month check up and now weighs in around 26 pounds (as of a couple weeks ago when we went to the doctor for sickness).
Here are a few of our favorite snapshots from the past few months...

| He enjoyed time on the farm during our trip to Texas. He thinks every animal "moos" so it's fitting he got to hang out with the cows up close and personal. |

I love this little guy! Great job at capturing Isaac at this age both in photos & words. I miss him & my little Karebear & can't wait to play once we are home!
