Today was low-key for the most part {yet not}! I say low key because we didn't do a whole lot, but in the same sense we did way more than we would usually do in one day {which resulted in a no napping day for Karis and a screaming fit at bedtime}...WHEW!
It was a fun day, though, and I spent each moment during the day taking advantage of extra snuggles and sweet conversations {or just staring at my sweet baby girl}. She is three today, yet it seems like she's already been three for a while {after all since she was about two and a half she's been telling people she's three}.
Daddy is out of town for business and comes home tomorrow. We are all excited for his arrival home {especially Karis because that means more presents to open!} It's hard having him away on such a special day, but we also know and appreciate {and talk a lot about} that he is doing what God has called him to right now to help provide and care for our family. We had lots of fun face time conversations with him, so that helped us feel really connected with him {although he's two time zones away!}
So when Karis woke up this morning, she was excited to see decorations I had put up overnight and she got to eat her favorite breakfast meal {sprinkled/icing doughnut with a side of fruit}. While brother napped, she played on her birthday gift grammy and grandpa and Gigi had given her a few weeks back. After Isaac woke, we headed to Aunt Lala's house {per cousin Charlotte's request} to have a Chick-fil-a lunch...good suggestion Char! The kids enjoyed playing and eating chicken together. We headed home {where as I mentioned before} Karis didn't nap. But after a time of rest for both kiddos, we watched a couple shows before Aunt Lala, Uncle Rob and the cousins came over for dinner, cake and more presents. She really enjoyed the fun new gifts, especially the video Aunt Lala made for Karis. Little back story here, Karis loves watching all the baby videos that Lauren has made for all the kiddos {except Karis didn't have one} so she made one for Karis. It's adorable! Thanks Lala, I'm sure we will watch it many times {a day!} And when I can figure out how, I will post it!
Until then, pictures of our day today...

| Starting the morning with her favorite breakfast |
Random pictures, but I couldn't resist a "before" from 3 years ago {above} and an "after" picture of Karis today! {notice our same pitiful tree in the background!}

| FaceTime with daddy first thing in the morning. She was happy to see him! {she was also happy to facetime with several other family members throughout the day} |
| opening presents {shhh...she has more to open tomorrow when daddy gets home!} |
| Posing in one of her new outfits |
| Playing on her leap pad from grammy, grandpa and Gigi |
| Concert by Karis at Aunt Lala's house |
| After lunch snuggles |
And on our way home, just as we pulled in the driveway, I noticed it was the time of her birth three years ago, so we snapped another pic! She said she was pretend sleeping in this picture...too bad she didn't actually sleep when we went inside for nap time!
| Post nap show time and silliness |
| More gifts to open {notice her super cool cow watch she got from Chick fil A at lunch too!} |
| Well when Steve's out of town, Rob is stuck playing with all the kids...double horsey riding pro right here folks! |
| Part of the cards made by the Valentines, I thought these were all pretty fitting descriptions of Karis! |
| Cake time, and she refused to smile, too busy eating! |
| I had to laugh looking back through the day's pictures because I don't have one of Charlotte looking at the camera...haha, well we know she's enjoying the cake! |
| Sweet Eloise |
| He liked talking about the cake, but he didn't want to eat it. Love little Isaac! |
| Well Rob, this is what happens when you impersonate Karis' cheesy grin...I post it on the blog. You're welcome ;) |
| Lauren and Anson |
| Love these kiddos! |
| And the final pic of the day, wearing her new jammies {and prior to the major melt down moment!} |
Dear Karis Ann Valentine,
You are a blessing from the Lord. You care so well for people and it's inspiring to do the same as your mommy. You are so unique. You are a bright spot in my day. The Lord has a great plan for your life. You are special. You are one of the cutest little blondes I know! I love your giggle. I love your loud laugh too! I love when you snuggle with me. I like when you act silly and tell us jokes. I like when you say things that catch us off guard and make us laugh really hard. I love how you're sensitive to others' feelings and pray that you never lose that quality about you. You know how to bring joy to a room and you love making people feel included. I pray every day that the Lord will save you and that one day you will take great delight in serving him wholeheartedly. I love you peanut!
Happy birthday sweet girl,
Mommy
