2/3 of a year
We just passed the eight month mark a few weeks ago. We are thrilled to have Karis in our lives and continue to enjoy the true blessing she is in our lives.
Exciting news for month eight, she cut her first tooth! I had gone for a 6 week post six month check up (more on that in a bit) and the doctor asked if I had noticed any teeth yet, and I said no not yet...however as the doctor looked inside, there was one little tooth peeking through the gums (bottom front right tooth). Must have come up over night and I hadn't notice yet! The very next week I was checking out if the tooth was coming up any more and noticed the one next to it was also peeking through! Such an exciting new phase, well sort of (all you nursing moms can understand)! She hasn't seemed to have too much fussyness related to the teeth coming in yet, just a few times of having a hard time going to sleep, which as soon as we give her a teether in the crib, she's happy.
So back to the doctor appointment...Karis was considered "under weight" at her 6 month well check up. She was in between the 5-10 percentile, and according to the growth charts, was going on a downward curve. So the doctor strongly encouraged us to keep up with the solids (which she did finally take a liking to shortly after that 6 month appointment). We also had to schedule an appointment six week after her six month appointment to weigh in and make sure she was gaining weight satisfactorally. After the six month appointment, I was a little bothered by her being underweight, but quickly got over that feeling and knew she was doing just fine, she is just little. So I went into the check up six weeks after with a much better perspective and knew that no matter how much she weighed, that she was perfect. Her development is on target (if not a little advanced for her age) and she is chunking up at her own rate. So I wasn't going to be too concerned if she was considered small (afterall, God makes us all different, and I believe that's no different for babies too). She weighed in at 14lbs, 15 oz, which was a pound more than at her six month appointment. She is still considered in the 5-10 percentile (but going up on the growth chart) and so the doctor seemed to think she was healthy and doing well.
She continues to become more and more interactive as the days go by. She LOVES people...and that might be an understatement (I have a feeling we have a little extrovert on our hands)! She could be in a fussy mood (believe it or not, our smiley baby does have her moments) or tired as can be but as soon as you take her around a crowd of people or even just one or two others, she lights up and begins to smile. I'm so used to people constantly saying things as I walk through stores these days such as, "oh look at her smile", "she is adorable", "she's so happy"...this little smiley baby sure does know how to stop a crowd and make people feel better about themselves. I really enjoy praying that this part of her personality will continue to bless others throughout her life.
She has developed a sweet giggle, especially when mommy or daddy tickles or kisses her non-stop. She also has a developed a very distinct laugh noise that sounds like "HAA" drawn out. Steve seems to think it was inherited from her mommy's very distinct laugh. She will laugh back when you laugh with her and so of course we try to get her to do so often.
She also has begun learning how to give kisses, which really consist of sucking on your lip and sticking her tongue out! It's sloppy, but quite amuzing!
On to some photos of our little Honey Bear (as I so affectionately call her):

On to some photos of our little Honey Bear (as I so affectionately call her):
beginnings of pulling up on things
Cousin Charlotte loves to be close to Karis, especially sitting in her lap!
Karis likes cars (just like daddy)
enjoying a day at the pool
one of the many cute positions we find her sleeping in
Car show-Uncle Rob, Cousin Char and Daddy, Karis
all smiles on a hot Florida day
first time in the swing (she liked sucking on the edge of the swing, ick!)
If she's playing with a toy but wants to go somewhere else, she will typically carry the toy in mouth
Praise Baby DVD-she could sit or stand for hours (if it lasted that long) watching this DVD of worship songs
8 months with her Wubanub pacifier (aka Mr. Wubs, Wubbers, The Wubs)
She's even smily first thing in the morning - definately inherited this from daddy ;)
We often refer to her as Curious Karis-here she is inspecting mommy's bag
pulls up constantly on things
This is a common sight these days-she moves so quick!
happy to eat
not so happy to get her faced wiped down
Oral health-very important!
Perfect picture to end on (yet another interesting sleeping position)!
Don't let her small size discourage you! Karis may not be ahead by her weight, but she is definitely very smart! She is always doing new things before Jude!
