Planning
Proverbs 19:21 (ESV)
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.
I’ve always been the type of person that has a plan. I keep my “planner” close at hand in case something comes up throughout the day to plan a time and date.
I plan all day long in my job…
I plan meals for dinner…
I plan how bills will get paid on time…
I plan the budget…
I plan the best way to get to there from here…
I plan my day and make a checklist…
I even plan how better to plan!
I think you get it…I’m a planner! I’ve come to learn that being a planner isn’t a bad thing, especially when it's not your spouses strength…we complement each other well. Steve has the ideas, dreams and pursuit; I have the plan on how we are going to get there or get it done! So it’s not a bad thing, HOWEVER, I have learned that my interesting intricacies that God has placed within me, can be a drawback as well. Especially in light of what Proverbs 19:21 tells us. I can make all the plans in the world, but if they do not align with what the Lord has set out to occur, my plan will be disrupted by the ultimate planner of things. In the moment, I don’t like the disruption…but when all is said and done, I’ve learned that God’s way is best and He’s only looking out for His glory and my best interest in the situation.
I say all this, because we’ve been making a lot of plans lately. Last week we went to Florida to look at housing. Before we left, we did a lot of research on apartments, and had a lot to choose from…that list, however, quickly got narrowed down to one apartment. The planner side of me started to emerge and we found one more apartment to add to the list in order to have a couple to choose from. However, the one we added last minute got cut from our list when Steve visited it in person and found that it wasn’t suited for us. When looking at the other complex, though, Steve instantly knew that was the one! When he asked the leasing lady what day an apartment would be available in July, they told us the date that we had already planned on arriving! We knew that was God’s way of saying, this is it! However, in order to put a lease on the apartment we had a few obstacles to overcome, and I learned that when dealing with obstacles, I don’t always handle them well. Things weren’t going as I hoped they would and I got frustrated. In the end, it all worked out and we officially have a place to live...but it was just another reminder, that I can make all the plans in the world, but the Lord’s plan will prevail and is better than any plan I can make!
Again, God’s way was best! He is looking out for His glory and has our best interest in mind!
