Stress levels
I'm reading a book right now and there is a chapter about stress. The author quotes another author saying this,
"Our reaction to stress is an important key to longer, better living. When we feel stressed out, will we give up or keep going? Will we see it as an irritation or a challenge? Will we blow a fuse or let it charge us up? We hold the key. We can decide whether stress will work for us or against us--whether stress will make us better or bitter."
This got me thinking...how do I handle stress, and especially, how have I handled it lately?
Steve and I have felt stress (good and bad) in the past few weeks with weighty decisions we have been making about the future. When we first made the decision to go to Florida, I do not feel like we handled stress very well. This past week, however, after sorting through some things, I feel like we have handled stress a lot better. We are doing better at keeping things in perspective.
I resonate with the above quote...because we really don't have any control over some things that happen in life, but we do have control over how we decide to respond.
I want to be someone who is, "quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger" (James 1:19) As that passage continues into vs. 20 of James, "the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God."
I desire to achieve the righteousness of God in order that those around me will be impacted for the glory of God. I don't want stress to become something that controls my life. Stress doesn't go away, I think I used to believe that, it just changes and you deal with new stresses in life. Stresses we experience will not go away when we get to Florida. We are fully aware of that...and we know that new challenges will arise.
So as new challenges, stresses, and adventures arise on our journey to Florida, I want to be someone who takes things in stride, keeps things in perspective and most of all I want to be someone who finds a way to glorify the Lord by loving others all along the way.
